Now, the REAL reason we have to discover and re-discover stuff all over again is because the huge magnetic field created by Harvard-trained 'nana-eatin' PhD's who busy about with their cohorts, is resetting the hard-drives of the innovators, those folks who come up with all those crazy theories that the other folks in charge won't ever test.
Reminds me of our favorite [redacted]people coach, "One must be reading the research...." All fine and dandy, but the real issue is not who has all the answers, but who gets to come up with all the questions. Cause, people like that [redacted] coach keep saying that we need good studies. Good studies are produced, but they still deny deny deny. So what's up with that? Certainly not science, there is something up there, other than science, which has always been more fascinating to me than actual science.

Everything I want to do is Illegal - War stories from the Cold Thermogenesis Front
Hello Loyal Reader!!! Sorry I haven't posted lately, but I am still trying to recover from my back-to-back spring break events, and not finding the time for blogging.
I'll admit that I had been taking in a bit more me-time in the cold thermogenesis department this week. I tried to cut down so that I could clean the guest bathroom before my guests arrived, but then we got a really great rainstorm and I felt compelled to spend at least a little part of it on the patio in my underwear. It took me forever to warm up, but later on I felt GREAT!! It rained some after my guests arrived, so I left them to unpack and fend for themselves, which is fine because they were tired from all the travel and didn't miss me at all.
The paleosphere has been annoying this week, with continued talk about how cold thermogenesis will kill me. I get so annoyed when they do that. What do they know? I think they are full of it. I don't think CT will hurt me that much, and nothing the bitchy, ego-laden, self-appointed CT-czars-who-talk-about-their-MCAT-scores say will sway me. (OK, I guess I have been feeling a little guilty about neglecting my unscrubbed bathroom for a bit of the deep freeze.)
This morning (after a wonderful night of sleep due to CT-I think I started to pass out at about 8:30...) I was lying in bed thinking about topping off the soaking tub and going for a soak as soon as I finish my pastured bacon and eggs, coffee and turmeric. I want to get out there before it gets too hot.
I do seem to be getting used to the cold. Now I have to stay in the cold for a much longer time before I start to shiver. But, alas!, warm weather has arrived and I am not sure I will be able to stay cold adapted as my patio gets to 100 degrees in the shade and the ocean temps get into the 70's. I guess I will just have to keep it up, and maybe some extra ice, or maybe a freezer, so I can keep doing this all year around. I started out with 10 minutes in the cold air, but yesterday I was out there for a half hour and I didn't really feel all that cold. What's next, 40 minutes, an hour? I have gone from doing the CT a few times a week to CT a few times a day. I start with a round of outdoor activity, then continue with localized soaks, and then have a cold shower.
This week, I also tried exercise and portion control to try and shave off those last ten pounds, but I always find myself coming back to the CT, because it doesn't make me starve, trash my ligaments, or make my foot sore. And, I don't have to wear sweaty, stinky running shoes, or hurt my bare feet on dog poop someone left on the sidewalk.
Now I know that Dr. Moderation et al are concerned about my ignorance, stupidity, my health, my gullibility, and whether I have been irretrievably snatched by the Kruse Kult. They need not worry. His webinar featuring information on "deep CT" costs $38 dollars. That is like four days worth of ice, or several pounds of grass-fed beef, and I would rather get the beef. More power to him, though. It looks like he is charging doctor-rates. I wonder how much more per hour he is pulling in compared to when some random person clicks on the Drs. Moderation's posts on Psychology Today. We'll see if people will really pay more for the Ferrari than the Porsche.
(Oh, BTW, I found a really great blogpost this week. I googled dihydrogen monoxide and found lots of stuff about CT. Check this out, and be sure to click the link to the paper. Mr. Stanton, I am afraid your blog will soon be banned. Reading it is just too much fun. And sorry, Dr. Salatin, I stole the title of your book.)

Paleo on 1000 dollars a day
I guess I was just getting sick of the commerciality of paleo, with everyone seeming to hawk their gym, their website, their book, their individualized plan, etc. etc. etc.
I do believe it is fine for people to make a living, but what concerns me about this practice is that once someone comes out with a book, all they do is defend it. They become so invested in doing it the way of their book, that they can't seem to look beyond anything anymore.
It is even more dicey for these folks to change their course. If they don't change, they are just rigid, but if they do, some whiner complains that they are wishy-washy. They really can't win until the nastiness subsides and people can really take a good view of things and have a civil discussion.
I haven't purchased a paleo book, or a DVD, an exclusive seminar or phone call, a closed chat room, or any touted supplements from India. Maybe someday I'll buy a locker of grass-fed beef. I probably don't need to say that I am not buying anything from Harvard either.

Paleo on $100 a month challenge - Post Paleo
The experiment was a success sort of. I am sure the paleo purists would discount the whole experience because of the dearth of grass-fed beef, but hey, that is the reality for many and the reality for my location. I thought that my strategy of switching to low-fat feed-lot meats paired with coconut oil and fattier seafood could work. I think it did. I did no testing, but I seem to be intact from the whole process. I didn't take careful weight and tape measurements either, but I did lose some weight. I m down 15 pounds from the combination of the leptin reset earlier this year and this $100 challenge.
What did I learn? It can be done, but I had to do more scouting around for deals than I usually do. I did learn more about which store run the best clearance items in my area, and I started to get luckier and luckier with it as time went on. It was weird at the beginning, having to plot and plan so carefully. Once I built up a food stash, I quit tracking so carefully because I was in no danger of having any type of deficiency. At a few days in, I was up to around 90 grams protein a day, which I felt was sufficient and satisfying. I also think my strategy of running towards a spoonful of cheap saturated fat instead of other food contributed to my success as a fat burner, contributed to my weight loss, but also contributed to the boredom. I can't wait to get back to my expensive fancy cinnamon, my good coffee, butter, all the avocados and olives I want.
So, what is next? Right now, I am pretty disappointed in "paleo" or anything else dubbed ancestral. This weekend, the true colors really came out for some people in the paleosphere, despite recent pleas for better behavior by some luminaries. I have been cleaning out my reading list considerably, and by the end, was somewhat surprised that I had cleared out many of the "luminaries". There is just too much bad behavior, too much bitchiness, too many fine Harvard reputations to protect, too many books and DVD's to sell. I am done with it. I still have a few blogposts up my sleeve, but then I am done with Paleo. And, I don't even really wish them all the best. These people aren't nice, they aren't promoting anything worthwhile anymore. We aren't one big happy family under one tent working towards the same end. I think the whole thing needs to be reset and maybe someone can start over.
It will take me some time to unravel some projects. I had been quite an advocate for ancestral health, especially on [redacted]people. I'll work towards passing those endeavors off to some other interested people, but I am no longer in the business of redirecting friends to places of such nastiness. I still have Jack Kruse's link on my blog, and that will continue. Jack may be a stark raving lunatic, but at least he's not a bitch. People like that paleo guy seem to believe that people like Jack lessen credibility for paleo, but I contend that the paleo movement has become rotten from the inside out, and people like that paleo guy need to really take a look and see if they are contributing to that rot or not. (I am picking on him a bit more than he deserves, but it is just an example. He has not made the worst of the comments lately by any means.)
I'll be adding more links to my front page, not necessarily because I agree or disagree with them, but because I think that if I went to dinner and had a discussion with them, I wouldn't leave with indigestion.
